Exotic mitotic mechanisms
The emergence of eukaryotes around two billion years ago provided new challenges for the chromosome segregation machineries: the physical separation of multiple large and linear chromosomes from the microtubule-organizing centres by the nuclear envelope. In this review, we set out the diverse solutions that eukaryotic cells use to solve this problem, and show how stepping away from 'mainstream'...
متن کاملExotic s-wave superconductivity in alkali-doped fullerides.
Alkali-doped fullerides (A3C60 with A = K, Rb, Cs) show a surprising phase diagram, in which a high transition-temperature (Tc) s-wave superconducting state emerges next to a Mott insulating phase as a function of the lattice spacing. This is in contrast with the common belief that Mott physics and phonon-driven s-wave superconductivity are incompatible, raising a fundamental question on the me...
متن کاملReaction Mechanisms with Exotic Nuclei ∗
This talk examines a number of reaction mechanisms for scattering initiated by an exotic projectile. Comparisons are made with recent experimental data, in order to extract information on the peculiarity of the nuclear structure under extreme conditions and to test the accuracy of the available theoretical methods. Predictions for future experiments are also made.
متن کاملConventional superconductivity and charge-density-wave ordering in Ba1xNaxTi2Sb2O
We have investigated the low-temperature physical properties of BaTi2Sb2O and Ba1−xNaxTi2Sb2O (x=0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3) by means of muon spin rotation (SR) and SQUID magnetometry. Our measurements reveal the absence of magnetic ordering below TDW=58 K in the parent compound. Therefore the phase transition at this temperature observed by magnetometry is most likely due to the formatio...
متن کاملExotic non-abelian anyons from conventional fractional quantum Hall states.
Non-abelian anyons--particles whose exchange noncommutatively transforms a system's quantum state--are widely sought for the exotic fundamental physics they harbour and for quantum computing applications. Numerous blueprints now exist for stabilizing the simplest type of non-anyon, defects binding Majorana modes, by interfacing widely available materials. Here we introduce a device fabricated f...
